An exciting opportunity has become available at one of Sydney’s premier golf clubs to fill the role of Assistant Superintendent. This is a joint position within the management team and will play a critical role in driving the culture and standards of the course maintenance team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a self-motivated, career minded turf professional to work at one of the leading clubs in Sydney.
Tucked away in pristine bush land on Sydney’s North, Avondale boasts a beautiful bushland setting and is recognized for its environmental stewardship as part of the Audubon International certified program for golf.
It is an exciting time at the club as we have recently appointed course architects Crafter & Mogford to develop a comprehensive Course Enhancement Plan as well as consultants Environmental Golf Solutions to develop a Vegetation Management Plan. The successful candidate will play an important role in implementing both of these projects, beginning as early as March this year. The club celebrates its centenary in 2026, with various events in the planning process. Avondale also plays host to The Avondale Amateur every January, which is a world amateur golf ranking event.
Reporting directly to the Course Superintendent, the successful applicant will be an integral part of the course maintenance management team and in partnership with the other Assistant Course Superintendent, will manage the day to day running of the maintenance program. As a leader, the position will assist in planning of the work schedule, planning and implementation of the chemical program, irrigation scheduling and will fill in for the role as Superintendent during his absence.
The successful applicant will have an understanding of the game of golf and will have a desire to progress in their turf management career.
Responsibilities
- Supervision and management of the course team
- Assists in scheduling and planning of the maintenance program
- Scheduling of irrigation programs
- Complete staff induction and training
- Mixes and applies fertilizers and chemicals
- Assists in planning and implementation of the chemical program
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of WHS requirements
- Excellent communication skills
- Competent computer literacy
- Compliance with environmental regulations
- Significant knowledge of turf related chemicals, pests and disease management
- A sound knowledge of irrigation and water management practices
