About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly skilled Golf Course Superintendent, to lead our golf course maintenance (GCM) team and ensure the property is kept in pristine condition all year round. In this role, you will be the driving force responsible for the overall management of GCM activities, efficient operations and strategic planning of the golf course, sports field, resort grounds and gardens.

Royal Pines 27-hole championship golf course is ranked in the top 100 golf courses within Australia. Our three 18-hole, par-72 combination layouts, along with a driving range, putting green and chipping green, guarantees members, groups and casual golfers a memorable round of golf. In addition to this, our multi-purpose grass sports field caters for different sporting codes and is the perfect venue for elite sporting team training camps.

Reporting to the Golf Operations Manager, you will be an integral member of our leadership team.  Your passion and commitment to excellence will see you thrive in this role. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the delivery of daily maintenance activities and works programs for turf management, landscaping, irrigation and equipment maintenance, are carried out within set time frames
  • Lead a dedicated team of 16, facilitate meetings, manage recruitment, staff training, feedback and performance management
  • Foster a positive HSW environment, ensure the safe operation of equipment and compliance with health, safety and wellbeing policies and procedures
  • Contribute to financial management of budgets, labour, cost control and CapEx
  • Monitor and manage course conditions, including maintaining the irrigation system and efficient water usage
  • Ensure machinery and equipment operates efficiently and the servicing schedule is maintained
  • Support a member and guest first culture to deliver a high standard of service excellence
  • Maintain records, develop and deliver processes and procedure improvements
  • Collaborate with resort departments, suppliers and contractors to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead by example and practice the RACV values – Innovation, Accountability, Care & Team

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Flexibility to work a 7 day roster, including weekends
  • 5 years’ experience as a golf course superintendent within a top 100 Australian golf course
  • Certificate qualification in turf management or higher/equivalent
  • Valid drivers licence
  • First Aid and OHS certificate, desirable
  • Solid understanding of golf course industry trends, maintenance, horticulture, landscaping procedures and techniques, irrigation and water quality systems, equipment operation, repair & maintenance
  • Knowledge of Rainbird decoder, nimbus and satellite irrigation systems, beneficial
  • Competent computer skills including MS Office applications
  • People management leadership experience, encouraging teamwork, managing recruitment, training and performance management
  • Understanding of financial records, planning, budgets, cost control, inventory management and reporting
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally & written, effective listening and decision making skills
  • Strong organisational, time management, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent personal presentation
